New Jersey Off Highway Vichile Association

Articles - Press Release

From Scott Lukaitis
Working in powersports dealers in New Jersey for all of my adult life I often hear from customers that there is no place to ride in New Jersey. And except for the couple of race tracks (Atco and Englishtown) they are correct. Sure there are tons of sand pits and back yard places that you can ride, some legal some not, but for the most part New Jersey is void of an established riding park.
Over the past couple of years a movement has been growing steam to help change that. But more often than not anytime there is a proposed location the local and not so local environmental lobbyist get involved and squash the proposal eliminating your riding park. Sure the local towns will go out and build a baseball or football field and even make your once favorite riding area a nature preserve and your tax dollars go to pay for it.
One of the key factors in getting this changed requires action. You can no longer sit on the couch and say "someone should build a riding park". It is now time for action, otherwise the sport of off road riding will be gone for good. That's right, many towns have looked at and passed ordinances across the country eliminating off road vehicle access. That means no more riding your ATV or dirt bike.
But what about on my property you may say? Well there too they can pass an ordinance banning the use on your own property. Think that can't happen....well it already has.
Now is the time to get involved. This is where NJOHVA or the New Jersey Off Highway Vehicle Association gets involved. Coupled with your local powersports dealers NJOHVA is out there fighting the fight to get bills passed and land organized to create riding parks in the state.
You can get involved first by joining NJOHVA through the link provided below:
Then by participating in the  "Action Alerts" sent out via email. These alerts often are simply requests to pass along an email or letter to your state representatives requesting their action on your behalf with regards to your OHV rights. Sometimes they are alerts notifying you about a town council meeting about a proposed riding area or other OHV issue. Spend the time to get involved.
Lastly learn about the proposals and issues facing you as an OHV enthusiast. Only by each individual getting involved can we as a group make OHV use available in the state.
For more about NJOHVA visit their website at the link below
And if your local dealer and riding buddies aren't aware of this group please let them know about it.
We need all the support we can get if we hope to continue our ATV and Dirt Bike use in the state.
Thank you for your support.

Danny "Magoo" Chandler 1959-2010

American motocross legend Danny "Magoo" Chandler passed away Tuesday night at his home in Yuba City, California. Born in 1959, Chandler was a Northern California dirt-bike prodigy who erupted on the AMA circuit in the late seventies. Semmingly fearless, the wild-riding Chandler was known as much for his spectacular crashes as for his speed. He raced a variety of motorcycles -- Penton, Maico, Suzuki, Honda, KTM and more -- all over the world. His dominant rides for Team USA in the 1982 Motorcross and Trophee des Nations, where he swept all four motos over a two-week period in West Germany and Switzerland, marked the only time in the history of the sport that a single rider captured every moto win in the two races. Chandler eventually moved to Europe, where he added a 500cc Grand Prix win to his four AMA 500cc National wins. Tragically, Chandler crashed at a supercross race in Europe in the mid-eighties and broke his neck, ending his career and leaving him wheelchair bound for the rest of his life.

Danny "Magoo" Chandler was 50 years old.

January 27, 2010

American Suzuki takes great pride in its longstanding support of motocross racers. That support continues in the 2010 racing season with more than $2.2 million in posted contingency. These funds will be available at 300 events across the country - more than any other manufacturer. Suzuki will pay the owner of any 2008, 2009 or 2010 RM85, RM-Z250 or RM-Z450 purchased new from a dealership for top 5 finishes at every contingency event, and the top 10 at any of the seven major amateur national events. Those important events include the Lake Whitney Spring National, the GNC International Finals, the NMA World Mini Grand Prix, the Mammoth Mountain MX, the NMA Grand National Championships, the Unlimited Sports Winter Olympics and the AMA Amateur National Championships. In addition to this generous monetary support, Suzuki will also be providing free trackside assistance at the seven amateur nationals as well as other selected events.

“American Suzuki continues to support motocross enthusiasts like no other manufacturer. Every dollar invested in the Motocross Contingency Program is going to the core of our sport - every local and regional racer who attends their weekly event in pursuit of victory. With the addition of the all-new, fuel-injected RM-Z250 and our race-proven RM-Z450, Suzuki racers across America will have a head start on the competition,” stated Brian Noah, Suzuki Motocross Support Specialist.
