Motorama 2010

This event starts up the racing season for many kids, racers and families. In 2009 the Motorama event started off a great season for Doublin Gap's own #316 Chase Yentzer. Who split mains last year in the 50cc classes with the #11 of Andrew Broadbeck. Chase then went on to a top 3 finish at Loretta's. The A class start was also really great for the Bromley/KPS/MSR backed #31 Barry Carsten and AMS/VPE rider #111 Broc Schmelyun. Both guys split mains in last year’s event and had really good seasons afterwards. This event is tough for sure, the starts are everything, but for many D6 and MDRA racers this seems to be the place to get off on the right foot and start the momentum for a new year of racing.

The battle between the young up-and-coming Broc and the very seasoned Barry last year was almost epic to watch. While the starts help a lot in the AX style venue, nothing can replace simple experience and Barry uses that to his advantage from before the gate even drops. While Carsten is back for the 32nd annual event Schmelyun is healing from a badly broken collar bone and will miss the event by just a few weeks. Heal up fast Broc, and go school them kids Barry!

The 2009 year saw former national rider Brian Carroll #48 return to the event with his son Bryton #10 as well. While Bryton went on to win a race or even two, dad broke is foot before the day one was over with. Brian sported the American flag for many years as a racer; he is a proud racer and a proud dad now too. Going over the pre-entry list I don't see Brian listed this year, for one of the guys who's 2009 season started off rocky Brian may have opted out of this event for 2010. Both the Carroll's have some skills for sure keep an eye out for them in 2010.
You cannot come to the Motorama event without checking out the Ms. Motorama Pageant. The girls are always a huge hit with the fans and racers alike. They have their entirely own fallowing and it is a big deal for the girls. Last year the lovely Jessica Jordan took the crown and was wonderful all year representing the pageant. This year’s event is even bigger and better than ever before. Ashley Buffington, the woman behind the pageant, does a great job getting everything in order and 2010 is no different. This is my second favorite part of the entire week, next to the races.

Here's a blast from the past shot here. This is the Motorama event from 1994. That is Ty Wallace #281 grabbing the lead early with Yentzer, Dixon, Kratz and more on his heels. I don't remember who won this race, but one thing I do remember is that one of these years here the #175 of Jeff Yentzer donated his entire purse money to the Spina-Bifida foundation. The Spina-Bifida foundation is a great foundation that Motorama has supported for many years. Do not miss the 32nd annual event this weekend, its one of those events you just don’t want to miss out on! EastMX.com will be on hand to cover the event with photo and video coverage to come next week. See you at the races!

By far one of my best and favorite tracks is Doublin Gap MX Park. Long before it had that name, it was a favorite track of mine. And now owner's Jeff and Rod Yentzer raced here many times before running the facility. I have seen the track take on many looks over the years. And right now I am hearing it is in prime shape via many emails and FB/Myspace comments. I have been on it very little myself since the directional change. But what time I do have on it, I liked. I always run well here myself and seem to have an extra spring in my step at Doublin Gap races. And that's what happens when your comfy on a track. And Doublin is a track I am comfy for sure. Look for a great program run by the entire Yentzer camp. I know the tracks going the other way now, but I can tell you "old" Todd Weindel #687 was rollen this day ( shot below ) and having a blast. Even with a wash out right here earlier in the day. That also took out 919 designs/Twiggs John Bolin's#858 KXF450, plus let me sneak right on by. Todd loves this shot and rightly so, he made it an easy shot by railing a killer DGMX berm. Todd's NO slow poke. He'll be the first to tell you he's the slowest of the fast guys, but I have to disagree. The #52 is, Todd's 2nd.
