Raceway Park
This weekend starts off the first Loretta Lynn Area Qualifier for the Northeastern section of the US. This years qualifier is being held at Old Bridge Townships Raceway Park, home to the annual Kawasaki Race of Champions that brings in the very best Kawasaki team riders across the states with the addition of anyone else that wants to contend. With little places to ride in New Jersey Englishtown draws in a lot of local racers and more, what does this mean? This means that even a seasoned  racer can get a surprise to a "local" racer who may not venture to far, not that its a bad thing, it just makes for some great racing. With the rain out of the way last weekend and the forcast looking sunny the track should be in great condition for this qualifier.

Pagoda MC : Mainline Series Round 1
With the tough economy in mind Pagoda MC and Sleepy MX have decided to team up and create a smaller series between the two of them using race dates that were already established meaning if you're like most of us and you don't have quite enough funds to travel between 3 or more states to be competitive in a series you can stay close to home and compete and Sleepy and Pagoda and still be eligable for some awesome awards at the end of the season.
Last weekend was the scheduled first round of the Mainline Series at Sleepy MX but thanks to that awesome weather we've been having they canceled their moto race and had a jet ski race instead so Pagoda is now the first round. If you're not looking to qualify for Lorettas or you just need a little more practice first be sure to hit up Pagoda this weekend - Saturday practice and Sunday Racing.

I will be at Raceway Park to cover their event that is 100%, Pagoda...95%. See you this weekend!

Motorama 2010

Articles - Whats Next?

February 20th and 21st marks the return of the 32nd Annual Motorama event to the Pennsylvania Farm Show Complex is Harrisburg, PA. This event has been on my calendar ever since the late 1980's, if not to race it, surely to watch the event. With so much in the building going on all weekend, it's hard to get to see it all and that's why EastMX.com will be on hand to cover the footage for you. While our goal is to cover the motocross I am sure we will find time for the Ms. Motorama Pageant, RC cars, Go-Karts, Trials, car shows and much more. The event last year saw standing room only by 2:00pm Saturday afternoon last year. At the time, I was glad to have a spot on the floor.

This event starts up the racing season for many kids, racers and families. In 2009 the Motorama event started off a great season for Doublin Gap's own #316 Chase Yentzer. Who split mains last year in the 50cc classes with the #11 of Andrew Broadbeck. Chase then went on to a top 3 finish at Loretta's. The A class start was also really great for the Bromley/KPS/MSR backed #31 Barry Carsten and AMS/VPE rider #111 Broc Schmelyun. Both guys split mains in last year’s event and had really good seasons afterwards. This event is tough for sure, the starts are everything, but for many D6 and MDRA racers this seems to be the place to get off on the right foot and start the momentum for a new year of racing.

The battle between the young up-and-coming Broc and the very seasoned Barry last year was almost epic to watch. While the starts help a lot in the AX style venue, nothing can replace simple experience and Barry uses that to his advantage from before the gate even drops. While Carsten is back for the 32nd annual event Schmelyun is healing from a badly broken collar bone and will miss the event by just a few weeks. Heal up fast Broc, and go school them kids Barry!

The 2009 year saw former national rider Brian Carroll #48 return to the event with his son Bryton #10 as well. While Bryton went on to win a race or even two, dad broke is foot before the day one was over with. Brian sported the American flag for many years as a racer; he is a proud racer and a proud dad now too. Going over the pre-entry list I don't see Brian listed this year, for one of the guys who's 2009 season started off rocky Brian may have opted out of this event for 2010. Both the Carroll's have some skills for sure keep an eye out for them in 2010.

You cannot come to the Motorama event without checking out the Ms. Motorama Pageant. The girls are always a huge hit with the fans and racers alike. They have their entirely own fallowing and it is a big deal for the girls. Last year the lovely Jessica Jordan took the crown and was wonderful all year representing the pageant. This year’s event is even bigger and better than ever before. Ashley Buffington, the woman behind the pageant, does a great job getting everything in order and 2010 is no different. This is my second favorite part of the entire week, next to the races.

Here's a blast from the past shot here. This is the Motorama event from 1994. That is Ty Wallace #281 grabbing the lead early with Yentzer, Dixon, Kratz and more on his heels. I don't remember who won this race, but one thing I do remember is that one of these years here the #175 of Jeff Yentzer donated his entire purse money to the Spina-Bifida foundation. The Spina-Bifida foundation is a great foundation that Motorama has supported for many years. Do not miss the 32nd annual event this weekend, its one of those events you just don’t want to miss out on! EastMX.com will be on hand to cover the event with photo and video coverage to come next week. See you at the races!

Weekend Preview 10-24/25-09

Articles - Whats Next?

By far one of my best and favorite tracks is Doublin Gap MX Park. Long before it had that name, it was a favorite track of mine. And now owner's Jeff and Rod Yentzer raced here many times before running the facility. I have seen the track take on many looks over the years. And right now I am hearing it is in prime shape via many emails and FB/Myspace comments. I have been on it very little myself since the directional change. But what time I do have on it, I liked. I always run well here myself and seem to have an extra spring in my step at Doublin Gap races. And that's what happens when your comfy on a track. And Doublin is a track I am comfy for sure. Look for a great program run by the entire Yentzer camp. I know the tracks going the other way now, but I can tell you "old" Todd Weindel #687 was rollen this day  ( shot below ) and having a blast. Even with a wash out right here earlier in the day. That also took out 919 designs/Twiggs John Bolin's#858 KXF450, plus let me sneak right on by. Todd loves this shot and rightly so, he made it an easy shot by railing a killer DGMX berm. Todd's NO slow poke. He'll be the first to tell you he's the slowest of the fast guys, but I have to disagree. The #52 is, Todd's 2nd.

Pagoda's Pro Expert Big Bucks!

Articles - Whats Next?

You will find me at this weekends Pagoda Big Bucks shootout race. It's sponsored by VPE/MGX/Twin Air and Ray's Yamaha. There is $5500 up for grabs in the A classes. And I already know VPE's own Tylor Futrell is in the area. No doubt gearing up for the VPE sponsored race. He will not have an easy go at it with VPE's Broc Schmeylun and others on hand as well. But Taylor shocked a lot of people this year coming out the amateur ranks after what seemed to be all most it's own career. But he laid down some solid top 10 rides after the 2009 Loretta Lynn nationals were over with. And with that, has gained some more confidence and he now knows he can run that pace. I would bet the house, Taylor will be on his #277 VPE bikes this weekend. So that alone is an exciting thing to come out and watch. As well as our local A boys gunning for the national rider. I listed the last posting on the events of this weekend at Pagoda below and always check the website or D-6 site for any updates.

KROC 2009

Articles - Whats Next?

This weekend marks the 33rd time that the Kawasaki Race of Champions has invaded the Raceway park facility. And maybe the biggest event RWP has all year log, in terms of motocross. This event is just simply huge. And has been that way fro more than 30 years now. Team Green's best come to thrown down with some of the fastest locals anyplace on the planet. One thing about this RWP facility is the locals simply fly!! Besting the factory riders even back in the day. Yeah, back when, the factory boys raced this race. From World GP rider Billy Liles to Ward, Lechine, and even the Chicken. Who actually lost here on his debut at the KROC aboard his factory KX 125. And to be fair, the factory boys used to have a bulls eyes on them here every year. With everyone wanting to make a pass or push Jeff Ward wide one more corner. The race used to also line up an Expert/Pro rider with an 80cc rider. And they Pro's, had to ride the 80cc machines? It was a cool site to see but the times have changed and that race stopped sometime in the early 1990's. I don't recall the year the factory Kawy guys were not required to race the event no more. But they still show up, sign autographs all day and even do a demo ride by themselves now. So all is not lost, just changed around a bit. And maybe it's best to keep the riders healthy and getting ready for the next years SX season.
