Loretta Lynn's Recap

Articles - Race Reports

PoorBest

Loretta’s is in the books now and every class was filled with nonstop action. Starting with the little guy’s right up to the Pro Sport classes. The riders rode the 115 heat index early in the week and a Thursday night storm would bring out the mudders for Friday and the final motos. A few new winners like Gannon Audette, Jace Owen and Luke Renzland beat out favorites along with the regulars like Kyle Peters, Jason Anderson and Ian Trettle.

Schoolboy 1 had an upset winner, Luke Renzland, taking the title. Favorites like Joey Savatgy, Colt Nichols and Matt Besceglia could not compare with Luke’s consistency going 4-2-1 for the championship. Savatgy seemed to be plagued with bad starts all week and would work his way up inside the top 5. Even with Nichols moto win, Renzland started up front made the pass early and never looked back to get his first Loretta Lynn’s championship.

Justin Bogle was one of very few to dominate Loretta’s this week going 6 straight in his B classes. Bogle seemed to be effortless on the rough track, in spots he was looking around seeing how big the gap really was. Kyle Peters and Brad Frace were on a mission to get up front but bad starts would really show to be the factor in all the races this week. Frace would set blistering fast laps in just about every race but coming from outside the top 10 he would only let Bogle get away. Favorite Kyle Peters had some inspiring rides this week but some minor errors would turn into huge misses for the championship. Peters, along with many, other would have to sit back and watch Justin Bogle get away.

A classes were uncharacteristically mellow throughout the week. Not to take anything away from their racing but all the guys kept it clean and before half way the racing was spread out. Jacob Hayes showed to be someone to deal with in A. Everything from starts, lap times and that never give up charge really shows that he could be a top name when contracts come around. Jason Anderson had a few dominating motos and with his James Stewart wide open style around the track, he really made for some enjoyable viewing. When the final motos were done, Ian Trettle and Gannon Audette, showed to be the big winners in A and A/Pro Sport.

Girls 14+ had the much awaited battle between Jennifer Burton and Alexah Pearson. It started right off the bat in moto 1 with Burton putting on a clinic getting the holeshot and getting away fast. Moto 2 changed everything with Pearson getting out front early and Burton making a small mistake leaving her with a leg injury. This would pretty much leave it to Pearson, she would go on to win moto 2 and almost take the final moto but a flat would drop her to 2nd. In the end, a 2-1-2 was more than enough for Pearson to take home her much anticipated Championship.

Supermini 1 had the most drama of any class surrounding it. Fresh off a good week at Ponca, Cooper Webb was ready to carry  that into Loretta’s. Adam Cianciarulo could not stay off the ground or get the starts to get himself a shot at running down Cooper. It was all up to Dakota Alix and Jace Owen. Almost 6 for 6 these two would drag race each other for the holeshot. With Cooper wrapping up supermini 2, he looked for the supermini sweep. Owen and Alix would make him dig deep all week but Cooper nailing the triple triple after the finish and hauling would set himself up for supermini 1 perfectly. It came down to the last lap of the final moto and only a few corners from the finish where Webb would tangle with a lapper and end up on the bottom of a pile up. He would remount and finish third but, Jace Owen would sneak by to grab 2nd. Owen would go down as the upset winner and a very upset Cooper Webb would have to settle for 2nd overall.

Another year at the ranch is done now and we have next year to look forward to. B classes riders stepping into A will be making that class as packed as ever. Supermini riders will be moving to the big bikes and repeat championships will have a shot at defending their #1 plates. Congratulations to all the riders, staff, champions and graduating riders.

Loretta Lynns Weekly Report - Part 1

Day one of racing at The 29th annual AMA Loretta Lynn’s Amateur National Championship was loaded with racing action. Early morning motos saw a break in the heat and of course a fresh track. By the afternoon motos, we had seen 100+ temperatures followed by a quick shower and back to the heat. Riders had to face the elements for their first day of racing.

Lowell Spangler #42 getting an amazing jump on the start in Moto 1 of 450 A/Pro Sport. Spangler would lead the pack for about a lap before Nick Pullouzi would take command of the race. Spangler and Audette would battle for second while Pullouzi began to pull away. Nearing the end, Pullouzi would go down handing Audette the moto win and Spangler finishing third.

Spangler defeated after moto 1 but expect more to come out of his week.

Everyone was using umbrellas, cold towels and pit boards as fans trying to beat this heat and attempt to survive their motos.

East coast and NJ rider Luke Renzland #6 represented the northeast very well today in Schoolboy 1 with a solid ride in 4th. The 125 stroke class was very impressive with names like Savatgy, Nichols and A-rod all practically running a train around the course. Both Schoolboy classes should see a lot of action as the week progresses.

Jace Owen #41 got the holeshot and early lead in 85cc 12-14 but would go down leaving AC to charge the moto. Ciancurilio would began to check out and take the moto win.

5e1

Broc Schmmelyun, another Northeast ripper would land a solid start and would take advantage of mistakes to end up 3rd in 250 A/Pro Sport. Moto win would go to Jason Anderson as he cruised out front. Behind him you had Spangler and Trettle having problems that Broc would counter on for great ride.

Novik Gloves Thunder Valley Race Report

This weekend was round 5 of the AMA Outdoor National Motocross Series, in Lakewood, Colorado.   Being in our own backyard, there was enormous support of the Novik Gloves brand through-out the pit area as well as in the spectator area.  With the addition of several national level professional athletes to our program, we had 8 riders make the main events, and are super proud of all of them.  Here’s a quick rundown of the riders performance’s, and a little detail of what went on during the day.

450 Motocross Class-

Moto finish-     Rider name-                          Sponsors/Team-

19-16-              Derek Anderson-           Dupree1/Vickery Motorsports/Team Green

-Derek had a career best this weekend, proving that he has the speed to run with the factory teams.  He ran the same pace as Wey, Langston, and several other big names.  After the race Derek told us, “I was coming up on this Yamaha, and had the speed to pass but I got up and saw it was Langston(former world champion)!  I got the chills…bad.  Then armpump right after!  Ha!  I know now I belong with that front group.”  Congrats Derek!

17-25             Travis Sewell-             Rock River Powersports/MXtime.com/ScottUSA

-Travis wasn’t real excited about his results in Colorado.  He had a few crashes in Moto2 that held him back from breaking into the top 20.  But he had a good attitude and looking forward to racing in front of his home crowd this weekend at Red Bud.

26-21             Terren O’Dell                           Rock River PowersportsYamaha/Utopia

-Terren continues to hammer out some fast laps week after week.  The Arkansas rookie seems to has found his pace among the top racers in the world and is gaining confidence every round.

30-31          Hunter Meyer                     Rocky Mountain Cycle/Team Green/Mantis

-Hunter is a super fast Colorado racer that is used to turning fast laps at Lakewood.  Hunter capitalized on the hometown advantage, and came away from an impressive finish.

40-39         Coby Adair                                          Fun Center/Team Green/Protaper

-This weekend was Coby’s first week as a professional racer.  He came out swingin’ hard with a good qualifying time, but in Moto1, early in the race hit the deck hard.  This resulted in a separated shoulder and mild concussion.  It sounds like he’ll be on though, and ready to do battle again soon.

250 Motocross Lites Class

22-21-       Hunter Clements                         Donnell’s Powersports/Promotofan.com

The young Hunter Clements salvaged a good weekend, after having some bad starts and tuff times on the track.  He showed his work ethic, and managed to come away from Lakewood with a good result.  Keep an eye on this kid.  He has huge potential, and expect to see him move into the top spots in the near future.

18-26          Drew Yenerich               Rock River Powersports/FoxRacing Suspension

Drew worked hard this weekend.  He had less than amazing starts but worked up through the group and managed to get some great moto finishes.  Drew continues to move up in results every week, and looking forward to the future.

38-37          Robert Fitch                           FAFmx/Sunent/ART/TeamGreen Kawasaki

Bobby impressed a lot of people this weekend.  A lot of people didn’t notice but 3 weeks ago at a local Pro/AM, Bobby took a gnarly digger, which resulted in a broken wrist.  This weekend, he charged hard, and at one point got into 9th place, but got tangled up with Weimer moto1 and took a spill.  He landed on his bad wrist and re-broke it but kept on the track racing.  This guy has serious heart!

Well that summarizes the weekend in Colorado.  We’re very proud of all our racers, and looking forward to this weekend at Red Bud!  For more information on Novik Gloves, go to www.novikgloves.com.

Dade City Sponsors Cup Round 1

Articles - Race Reports

I made my way out to Dade City for Round 1 of their 2010 Sponsors Cup series last Saturday night after DCMX owner Randy Yoho suggested I might enjoy the evening's turnout and I was really blown away by the number of spectators and racers at the event. This weekend marked the sixth and final round of the FL Winter Am series so I wasn't expecting a huge turnout at Dade City but I was wrong. I don't have any numbers but even the vet classes had a good amount of riders on the gate and the Sponsors Cup race was intense to say the least and the pits were filled with spectators. With $950 up for grabs if you have a perfect night in that class racers kept it wide open through the first corner and way past the second corner and with money up for fastest lap and grabbing the holeshot it brought some great competition that provided a great race to watch.

Racers line up for the Sponsors Cup Practice

Kory Keylon showed his older brother that he has some speed as well finishing 3rd overall in the Sponsors Cup

Michael Clarke is FAST at Dade City. Clarke is last years Champion and started off this year with a 1st overall.

The Dade City crowd and Sponsors Cup series even attracted NJ racer Frankie Lettieri.

Michael Picone finished 2nd overall in the Sponsors Cup class.

Hunter Mims suffered from more bike problems this weekend taking him out of the race.
Seth Rarick recently switched over to kawasaki and shows to be running very strong on the ride.

Gannon Audette passes James Justice on one of the huge triples at Forest Glenn.
Greg "Frenchie" Pamart was running 1st in Plus 30 on Sunday until he was slowed down then he and barry Carsten collided in the Sand Whoops.
Trsitan Charboneau is one of the most consistant mini riders this series taking the win again 85 9-11 and Jr Mini 9-13

FL Winter Am Round 4 Weekend Report

We finally had a weekend of nice weather for a first in this years winter am series. It rained a lot on Friday but the sandy Lake City MX soil soaked most of it up, Saturday was muddy in some spots but after practice and the first few sets of motos the mudd started to dry out and Sunday the soil was pretty good, just a little wet but good. Was it rough? yes! The track has a layer of sand, then clay, then sand which made many square edge holes after all most of the corners and before jumps. Overall there was some great racing, in the Pro classes Sean hackley, Stella, the Medaglia brothers, Audette, Archer, and Salazar, and Faith went all out battling during every moto once again. All in all it was a great weekend of racing.

Eric Goodson finished 4th in the 16-24 class and 2nd in 250 Open

Nick Gaines finished a solid 1st in Supermini 2 14-15 and traded places witj Keith Tucker in Supermini 1 (12-15) with a 1st on Saturday and a second on Sunday

Austin Simpson finished 3rd in Supermini 2 14-15

A Class contender Broc Schemlyun broke his collarbone while practicing at Waldo a little while back taking him out of the competition, he is now Chase Yentzers official gate packer.

Brianna Mahon won every moto of the womens class again but not with a close battl with Serratia Gonzales #16

Serratia Gonzales chases after Brianna Mahon over one of the tracks offcamber sections.

David Kilgore won the Plus 25 class

Jake Pinhancos is a fast and fun to watch 65 rider finsihing 1st in both 65 10-11 motos

Jeremy Medaglia Launches the longest jump on the Lake City track. Check out those crazy low lines on the right!

In the second 250 pro moto Stella got up front in the first few corners, pulled over because of mechanical problems in corner 9 before the finish line. After the leader was about 3/4 around the track Stella started going again and put on a impressive ride coming from last passing Gannon Audette and catching Tyler Medaglia.

Gannon Audette isnt as good of a 250 racer as he is on a 450 with a second place finish in Open Pro and 6th in 250 pro

Frankie Lettieri has speed but couldn't put together a solid moto Sunday.

Bri Mahone and Serratia Gonzalez racing in the Womens class

David Buller finished 2nd in 250 B followed closely by Kory Keylon

Kyle Peters was a long way out front in the 250 B moto and the 250 Open moto on Sunday

Open C 1st place finisher Guillermo Esteva rallys through the rough sand and clay mixed Lake City track

Gavin Faith was doing very well at Lake City getting out front by the second corner in I believe every moto he raced. Gavin held his leads until he seemed to tire out. Here Gavin struggles to hold onto his postion while Gannon Audette makes his pass.

Rafael Zenni is an Official Suzuki rider and National Champion out of Brazil. Rafael finished 4th in Open Pro

This would have been cool if that bush didn't walk infront of my lens.

They were trying to reinact the Stewart/Reed Anehiem crash, luckily Gavin got away before Audette could land on him.

So heres how it went, Sean Hackley out front, Jeremy Medaglia caught up and passed Hackley, Hackley passed back for one straight, Jeremy heard Hackley railing the outside of this corner and said "Oh no you don't" and they both almost went down two corners from the finish. Jeremey took 1st in Open pro.

Dade City MX and the Yoho's did a great job taking care of Round 3 of the 2010 FL winter Am series. Saturday was a little windy but the track, which was ran completely backwards for this event, was great on Saturday. Early Sunday morning it really rained hard and flooded parts of the track, luckily the track is all sand so it dried out fast and made for some even more interesting racing especially in the Pro classes with Mike Alessi, British Champ Brad Anderson, Malcolm Stewart, and Stephen Stella mixing it up during every moto. It was a great time even if you weren't racing.

Thanks to the Dade City sand I can't put a name to this guy but I do remember he was going fast on Saturday.

Kyle Peters finished in a solid 3rd in 250 B behind Keylon and Goodson but took a solid overall in 250 Open and Schoolboy 14-16.

Hector Rodriguez finished 5th overall in Schoolboy 14-16, second in Youth 12-16, yet DNF'ed in Sundays 250 B class.

Nathyn Allen didn't seem like he was use to racing on tracks like Dade City with their deep sand.

Guillermo Esteva finished second overall in 250 C with a first on Saturday. Jack Sigismondo took the overall on board his KTM.

Tristan Charboneau has been very consistant since Round 1 of the FL Winter Am Series finishing first overall in both Jr Mini 9-13 and 85 9-11. Show here   of Cale Varty(26) and Hunter Chandler(114).

Cody Penwell who finished second gets the holeshot in Supermini 2(14-15) over overall winner Cody Chisholm, Austin Simpson(535), keith Tucker(641), Luke Palonicola(775), and Mason Brown(472).

Luke Palonicola has been training with Onario Izzi up in Georgia.

Mike followed British Champ Brad Anderson the entire moto until he decided to make this aggressive move and hold it wide open thru the whoops into the corner. The two pro racers kept a steady distance between each other everywhere on the track except the whoops where Alessi was obviously faster every lap.

Brad Anderson(165) who is the British National Champion has been flying under everyone's radar lately. He has been in Florida training for a few weeks so far. I saw him last week turning the fastest lap times to date at Skytop MX and seen here leading Mike Alessi in Saturday's Open A class.

Randy Yoho playing with one of his toys.

Jack Sigismondi finished second in Open C and first in 250 C battling with Guillermo Esteva both motos.

Adrian Cobo from Heredia San Pab finished 6th in Four Stroke, 2nd in Open and 9th in Open C. Adrian is a very close relative of Pro Ernesto Fonseca.

Cody Charboneau finished 4th in 65(7-9), 7th in 65 Open.

Third place finisher Camron Mitchell of the 65(7-9) class, shown in front of second place finisher Garret Sharp coming out of the unforgiving sand whoop section.

The last two whoops were the killers.

Peters nabs gets his bike out front early and never let off in Schoolboy (14-16)

The rain really came very early Sunday morning. This is the first turn after a couple motos have gone by.

Cullin park has great style for a mini bike rider. He finished 1st in the 50 Open class.

Barry Cartsen does not let off for anyone!

Malcolm Stewart was doing good all weekend finishing second overall in 250 Pro behind Stephen Stella and 4th in Saturdays Open Pro Class only to DNF Sunday. Malcolm even lead Mike Alessi in one moto then when he tried to make an aggressive pass on Cartsen he ironically went down 5 corners later and took him about a lap to get his bike started. Sunday He was leading again only to go down a second to loose his lead in the sand and ended up pulling off giving the overall away to Bard Anderson.
Jack Sigismondi finished second in Open C and first in 250 C battling with Guillermo Esteva both motos.

If you read up on our Saturday race report you already know Saturday was COLD, well Sunday wasn't much better at first but the sun came out and if I heard the annoucer right it was 21 degrees? Felt more like 30 but it got better. After talking with numerous riders they all agreed the track was good, then after the groomed it and it sat the chunks of clay and sand turned to chunks of frozen concrete bashing riders hands who neglected to run handguards and smashing me in the forehead while attempting to get some video of the racing.

The track turned out some good lines by the end of the day.

Malcolm Stewart and Stephen Stella

Jerek Brakovic had some problems with his bike as I saw him pushing his bike off the track towards the end of his moto on Sunday

Brianna Mahon and Mackenzie Tricker traded places a few times until Brianna made the final pass on the Australian woman racer.

Jeremy Medaglia put on some great racing Sunday while in the last Open Pro moto finished closely behind Mike Alessi

Gannon Audette didn't go as fast Sunday as he showed everyone at Round 1 but still put out some decent results.

MX Instructor Greg Pamart got out front early and swept every one of the vet classes. Look for him in the Pro classes at round 3.

Kyle Peters and Korey Keylon again put on a show with some close racing in the 250 B class.

Podium - Malcolm 3rd, Alessi 1st, Medaglia 2nd

Tony Archer held off Malcom Stewart for a good amount of time, shown here they were almost neck and neck going through the whoops in the back section.

Medaglia got the jump on Alessi on the first lap of the Open Pro class, however, Mike quickly took back the lead before a quarter of a lap had been made.

Barry Carsten is doing what he has done his whole life, racing, part of his tradition is racing the FL winter ams every year.

After round one at Gatorback It took me sometime to thaw out but today was by far the coldest day I have ever experienced at a motocross race, with a low of 20 and a high 36 degrees ferenhite my face is still partially frozen 5 hours after the racing has come to an end today. The track here at Reddick was great with its tacky clay forming lines in every corner and the dark sand sections really filling out with some good lines by the end of the day the only thing missing was snow on the ground, not that I miss snow but with this weather I felt like I was back at home in the north.

I can't think of a better way to break in the new year than with palm trees, sun, and dirt bikes. This years Florida Winter Am series started today, Janurary 1st with some bar to bar heart pounding practice at Gatorback Cycle park! Actually there wasn't any practice today. On my way to the track the sunshine states skies opened up and poured down on us slowing traffic on I4 down to under 35mph which made me really glad I got those new tires on the back of my truck last weekend. Contemplating weather to continue driving or turn around and start over in the morning I called Gatorback and was notified that practice was canceled for the day, it rained for a total of two hours then stopped.

This weekends forcast looks promising and after checking out a few spots on the track saw that the mudd shouldn't be a big deal and should be gone after practice tomorrow morning.

Currently pitted at the track I noticed Maryland native Stephen Stella who finished with a third place overall in 250 A/Pro Am Stock class at the 2009 Mini O's two months prior along with second place finisher Tevin Tapia.

PA native Kyle Sidle was also pitted at the track who ran the same class at Mini O's as Stella and Tapia but finished out of the top ten. Another PA rider I saw was Nick McPhee pimping around the track in his golf cart. I'm not sure what other racers will be here this round althought I heard some big names may make it to a round or two for meer "practice".
